Different Types of Website Traffic

If you are like me, you may have been a bit puzzled on some terms that internet marketers use. You may also have had a few questions like what are the different types of internet traffic?

  • How do I get traffic to my website?
  • What is the best type of traffic?
  • Can I just use a single method to gain web traffic?

Well, hopefully, this read will give you a better inside look at how to get the traffic flowing to your website and getting you those conversions that you seek.

Direct Traffic

 

In order to answer a few of the questions above, I think it is necessary to understand the main types of traffic.

I like to refer traffic to visitors, it sounds better to me, maybe because sitting in traffic is stressful and I don’t like stress.

Direct Visitors (Traffic) – Are those who type in your domain name from their browser. For example, say I own pizza.com and Tony wants my pizza specifically and he knows my domain name is pizza.com. He types that in and comes directly to my page.

 

Referral Traffic

 

Referral visitors (Traffic) – Are those who find your web site by means of an external link. An example could be that you chime in on someone else’s blog or web page and then post a link to your website.

This is a great way of getting visitors, however, make sure that the content is of quality content and not just link bait. Basically, you want to give some valuable content to the reader and not a trap or gimmick to fall for in order to get them to your site.

 

Organic Traffic

 

Organic Visitors (Traffic) – Here is the fruits and berries of our labor. An organic visitor is someone who has a need or a want and they go to their search engine and type in their need or want.Different Types of Website Traffic

An example of each would be that Janis needs information on a school her child will be attending. Janis doesn’t know the website address so she goes to the search engine for help to find the website she needs.

Here’s Another example, Jack wants a new golf club for his collection and wants to shop around so he uses a search engine instead of going to any direct site.

When Jack types golf clubs in the search engine he is going to get a wide array of ads for golf clubs.

 

Social Traffic

 

 

Social Visitors (Traffic) –  Arguably the same as referral visitors, however, it’s done differently.

Referral visitors come from external links and so do social visitors. The key difference is that social visitors are a follower of you or your brand.

Which are on a website such as Twitter and you have to build and maintain that audience with content or Tweets and ultimately route that audience to your website.

 Referral visitors just find your site through content that you have written with links on other websites besides your own.

 

Paid Traffic

 

Lastly, I want to touch on paid traffic. Some folks are shifting more towards this idea as it takes less time to get traffic flowing into your site.

Google AdWords is probably the most popular way to go but there are certainly more options out there when it comes to paying per click.

Yes, if this was your ad and someone clicked it you would get charged a fee for the click. Whether it led to a sale or not.

  1. How do I get traffic to my website?

To monetize a website, I would circle a campaign with all the above types of traffic except for the paid traffic. Once the campaign is generating income set a budget for the campaign to do paid advertising.  

If there is capital money to start with I would also have some paid advertisements going on with the campaign.

2.  What is the best type of traffic?

I don’t see a single type of traffic that is better than the rest. Organic Traffic may seem like the best but at the end of the day as a marketer you want all areas or types of traffic flowing into your site.

Any set of eyeballs can lead to a sale if their personal need or want is satisfied.

  1. Can I use a single method to gain web traffic?

I wouldn’t recommend it at all. I would get an action plan together on how much you will work on a specific campaign a day first off. Next, go through each of the types of traffic and work on all of them each day.

 

What if I get stuck?

 

Being stuck in a marketing campaign is frustrating. I have been in this position several times and I have given up. Something always brings me back to seeking new ways to succeed online. 

There are no shortcuts in this business. You have to put in work and you will get out what you put into it in TIME! As internet marketers, we do not reap the rewards right away. We must continually plant the seeds.

 

Different Types of Website Traffic WARNING LONG STORY!

I recently got back into online marketing after failing some time back after I watched a video on Facebook. This guy was talking about how he quit his job and was working from anywhere he wanted.

His life was horrible because he was working for minimum wage and he’s going on and on.

Well, at the end he’s telling on the video how I can make all this amazing money just like he is now. All I need to do is attend a free webinar.

I go to the webinar with a skeptic mind and they tell you that you can have your own business and everything you need to succeed for just 99 dollars!  

Being the skeptic that I am I seen they had a logo in the webinar with the company name. I start searching and looking for anything I can on this company and get nothing but two good things by the company in the search results.

I was at a wall for a moment and then remembered that the guy that I contacted befriended me on Facebook. Apparently, they do that with everyone so I started messaging people on his friend’s list.

This way I can get a more of an inside look from newcomers to the program because I wasn’t paying a hundred bucks to get left in the mud.

Then I started getting messages back saying that after they paid their hundred bucks they were then told they were going to have to shell out more money for this and that.

Wait What? At the webinar, you told me differently! Needless to say, they didn’t get 99 bucks from me. When I was researching this company though I kept running into this other company called Wealthy Affiliate.

I actually got involved with this group and I will tell you they are an open book and so friendly. They are giving me a clear clean-cut outline course on how to do internet marketing and blogging.
