G Suite Review

Microsoft Office apps have been around for as long as I can remember having a computer. They never seem to get any cheaper either. As a college student, I was able to get the apps for free or at a discounted price but those days are long gone. Recently I started looking at other options and Google has roughly the same apps for free. There are some bells and whistles that I will miss but you can’t beat free.

Then I started to check out G Suite and I got a little excited because the features they have for businesses. I have a small business and the features line up well for my needs. In this full G Suite review, I will cover all the main features, pros & cons, price, and alternatives.
G Suite Review

What Is G Suite And Who Is It For?

So G Suite is a package of desktop applications. The most comparable would be Microsoft Office or Open Office. Anyone with a Gmail or Google account can access the basic Google apps like Gmail or Google Docs. So what’s so special about G Suite?

G Suite is for small to large business owners. When you have a presence online as a business owner you want to have that specialized email. For example, mine is “David@buzzboxer.com”.

When customers do business with companies this is one of the details they will look for.

Features In Communication

  • Gmail – you get a personalized business email.
  • Calendar – Integrated calendar designed for teams.
     G Suite Review
  • Hangouts – Video meetings for team collaboration.
  • Google Plus – Engage and connect with your team.

These same applications are available with free Google accounts as you may know. The key difference is that you can use them on a business level in a closed, secure environment.

Features In Collaboration and Storage

  • Documents – A versatile document creation program.
  • Sheets – Basic spreadsheet software.
  • Slides – Create stunning presentations.
  • Forms – Create custom forms for your business.
  • Sites – A simplistic website builder.
  • Drive – Cloud storage for your files and your team’s files.

These applications are all standard with free Google accounts. In this G Suite review, I will not cover all the details of each app. Instead, I will make some quick comparisons to Microsoft Office.

  • Word Vs Documents – Word has more options for creating documents. Google docs can still create fantastic looking documents.
  • Excel Vs Sheets – Excel is the hands down the winner still. Google Sheets is still good for creating standard spreadsheets.
  • PowerPoint Vs Slides – I will stick my neck out there and say that this is a wash. PowerPoint has a few more options than Google Slides but both are capable of creating great projects.
  • Microsoft doesn’t have a forms app. They have templates that you can download for Word or other apps.
  • There is no app for creating websites in Microsoft Office.
  • One Drive Vs Google Drive – Again I call this a wash both hold and secure data well.

Features In Security & Administration

  • Admin – Manage G Suite for your company.
  • Vault – Archive system for all your establishment’s files.
  • Mobile – Manage your organization’s mobile devices.
  • Cloud Search – Find any document or piece of information for any of the apps listed above in one interface.
 G Suite Review
For any establishment these four features in G Suite are incredible. Imagine the ability to locate a document, an email, and a calendar event on one screen. That is a serious time saver!

Buzz Boxer G Suite Review Favorite Features

  • Team drive – If you have ever had a Google account and have used the drive you know that it is convenient storage. Inside your G Suite account, you will have two drives. One is your personal storage and then you have access to team storage for group projects. This is very useful for team collaboration.

  • App maker – Within G Suite your team has the ability to create organization-specific apps. App maker is an easy way for anyone to create simple tools for the organization. This also allows the engineers to focus on the more important company applications.

  • Cloud Search – Because finding everything you need when you need it is a great idea! Looking for files becomes a thing of the past and more work gets done faster.

Best Alternative For G Suite

Microsoft Office Share Point is the best competition for G Suite. There are other alternatives for G Suite but these two are the top two recommendations for office suite software.

I really love Google tools. One of the greatest features is that they work seamlessly across the different devices, platforms and OS! As a die hard Linux user it has always been my big frustration of people writing in Word and sending me those documents. I have installed the G suite on all our computers and children like it too. The tool set is really complete and nobody has complained about missing any feature of Microsoft set after the first week of getting used to the new way of doing things.

    • I can really appreciate the Linux OS as well. Do you have a favorite distribution of Linux that you use? I alway preferred the Mint Distribution as it is a ver clean and neat interface. I haven’t thought of that benefit and I’m glad you brought it up. No matter what device you are on Google can be there helping you with things like your Documents, Spreadsheets, and even your calendar!

I do know that the excel spreadsheet is way more intuitive to Google spreadsheets but take this into consideration. I wife is an accountant for a company that makes road construction equipment. She works with Excel every day and gets very deep with the spreadsheets. I had her mess around with Google Sheets for a little bit and she said that it could do her job just fine. She said that Excel just has more bells and whistles but if her company switched to Google it wouldn’t upset her.

  • My company recently changed over G Suite after years of using Microsoft Office. As you may imagine, there was a learning curve with the transition and many coworkers were very unhappy. It didn’t take long though for everyone to get up to speed and actually appreciate some of the new and useful features G Suites offers. I especially love the Team drive option and it has become a staple for my team and myself. I can do just about everything else I used to do within MS Office and am now glad for the change. I only wish we would have seen your coupon codes earlier but other than that, I recommend giving it a try.

    • Yep, these coupon codes are not going to last much longer as this page just got indexed and it is already on page three! I plan to do some major commenting and other tricks of the trade to boost my review to page one to start the conversions.

The team drives in G Suite is one of the greatest features. It eliminates the need for a dropbox account and other paid services and wraps them up into one premium service. Yes, Google takes a bit to get used to but it is the best deal you are going to find and it is the most secure in my opinion.

      Cheers
